History
One of the earliest Premonstratensian houses, Saint-Martin de Laon had previously been a house of canons regular. In 1124, Barthélemy, bishop of Laon, transferred the community to the Premonstratensian Order. Initially a double community, the sisters later moved to Dionne.
The Order's General Chapter meetings were held at Saint-Martin in 1577, 1498, 1543 and 1577.
The abbey of Saint-Martin de Laon was suppressed in 1790, and the abbey church became a parish church.
