History
Jovilliers was founded on land given to the Premonstratensian abbey of Riéval in 1131 by husband and wife Geoffrey de Joinville, seneschal of Champagne, and Félicité de Brienne. It was initially a double house; its sisters later moved to Nanteuil. It was always a small house, with 10 or fewer brothers.
Jovilliers was burned down twice in the 17th century, in 1652 and 1661. Its rebuilt church was consecrated in 1759. The abbey was suppressed in 1790. Today the site is used to host cultural events.
