History
The abbey of Rangéval was founded ca. 1140 with the support of the cathedral chapter of Toul, on land given by Hadwige d'Apremont.
The abbey was badly damaged on a number of occasions by warfare in the 15th century, and the brothers undertook a number of relic processions in the 1450s and 1460s in order to collect funds to restore the abbey. Further war damage in the 1640s led to another bout of reconstruction in the late 17th and early 18th century.
Rangéval was suppressed in 1790, and the property is today in private hands.
