History

The monastery of Notre-Dame-La-D'hors d'Auxerre was founded in the 7th century. Its name derived from its location being originally outside of the city walls. It became a noted pilgrimage site thanks to its possession of relics associated with St Vigilius.

Notre-Dame-La-D'hors joined the Premonstratensian Order ca. 1140-ca. 1170, as a dependent house of the nearby abbey of Saint-Marien d'Auxerre. It frequently was a site of refuge for the brothers of Saint-Marien during war time.

Notre-Dame-La-D'hors was suppressed at the Revolution. In the later 19th century, its site was cleared to make way for a court house, and none of the monastic complex now remains.
