History

Antoniusboomgaard was founded in 1414 as a house of Franciscan Tertiaries, and was briefly an Augustinian community (1479-ca. 1484). It joined the Premonstratensian Order ca. 1484 as a priory of Mariënweerd.

There was repeated conflict between the prior and the brothers in the 1490s, 1520s, and 1540s. In 1542, with papal permission, Antoniusboomgaard was formally dissolved. The abbot of Mariënweerd, which had paternity, contested the dissolution until the property was confiscated in 1581.

A 17th-century Lutheran church now stands on the site once occupied by the priory.
