History

The house was founded by Wit, bishop of Płock, in 1160-1179, and was one of the oldest Polish monasteries for women. It was a wealthy establishment.

In 1622, the monastery was moved to a better location by King Zygmunt III Waza because of landslides. The medieval monastic complex, located on a bluff above the Vistula River, eventually collapsed into the river. Nothing remains of the medieval monastery today.
