History

The women's community at Busko was founded in ca. 1180-1186 by Dzierżko (or Dersław), a knight of the Janina family and elder brother of Wit, bishop of Płock, and was populated by sisters from Witów. The monastery's church was damaged by fire and rebuilt a number of times over the centuries; only part of the original medieval structure remains incorporated into the church's fabric today.

Busko was seized by the state in 1819 and the community was dissolved. The monastic church is today the local parish church.
