History
Established as a Benedictine community in the early 11th century, Cölbigk became Premonstratensian in the 1140s. It was a double house until the 14th century. By the 15th century, communal life at the monastery had been abandoned.
In 1515, an attempt was made to renovate the delapidated cloister, but following further damage to the site during the Peasants' War, Cölbigk was finally fully abandoned.
The former monastery church was demolished in the 20th century. A memorial stone today marks the site where the priory once stood.
