History
Salival was founded 1140-1157 by Mathilde de Salm, countess of Hombourg, around an existing chapel dedicated to St Fiacre. The abbey church was consecrated in 1316. Salival was prosperous thanks to its saltworks. The abbey was partly destroyed in warfare in 1590.
The abbey of Salival was suppressed in 1791. The abbey church and cloister were demolished in the 1820s, but the abbot's residence survived. Today, Salival is a farm in private hands.
