History

Mariaroth was founded by 1132. It was likely initially a double house, but for most of its history was home solely to Premonstratensian sisters.

While initially a wealthy house, it became more impoverished over the centuries. The monastic complex was twice badly damaged by fire during the early modern period.

Mariaroth was suppressed in 1794. Nothing remains of the monastic complex today.
