History
The Premonstratensian abbey of Brindisi was founded ca. 1180, likely with funds given by Margarito (or Margaritus) of Brindisi, the first count of Malta and a former pirate. The abbey was immediately subject to the Holy See.
Brindisi is a poorly documented community. It appears to have been dissolved by 1310, likely because of economic struggles.
The abbey church was destroyed in the late 18th century, and nothing now remains of the monastic complex; the exact former location is unknown, but it is thought to have been near what is today the Porta Lecce.
