History
By tradition, the abbey of San Samuele was founded in the mid-12th century by three priests: Eustachio, Sillitto and Balzano. The abbey was badly damaged by warfare in the 1340s and again in the 1520s.
San Samuele shrank in size over the centuries, and in 1796 was absorbed by the seminary of Trani. Shortly after, the monastic complex was demolished, and nothing remains of it today.
