History

Almazán was founded around 1230 under the patronage of Leonor of Castile. Shortly afterwards, it was translated to the Premonstratensian order under the filiation of Retuerta. The house was badly damaged in a fire in the 1440s, and though rebuilt using the resources of the Premonstratensian abbey of La Vid, the community went into a decline.

While still in existence in the early 17th century, Almazán appears to then have been home to only one or two inhabitants, and was formally dissolved in 1830.
