History
An abortive foundation centered around the 11th-century church of St Thomas in Halberstadt. The foundation was attempted on the initiative of Dietrich von Krosigk, bishop of Halberstadt, and was confirmed by Celestine III in 1192.
However, the site was quickly abandoned by the order and given to the Templars. In the early 13th century, it became a house of Cistercian nuns, who remained there until 1810.
Much of the former monastic complex was demolished in the second half of the 20th century. The former monastery church was renovated in the 1990s.
