History
Chartreuve was founded ca. 1130 by Eudes de Bailleul, lord of Chéry, and André de Baudement. It joined the Premonstratensian Order ca. 1140/45, and was initially a double house. Chartreuve became a commendatory abbey in 1531. Much of the monastic complex was destroyed by fire in 1650, and was rebuilt in the mid-18th century. It was suppressed at the Revolution.
The site passed into private hands, and the abbey was substantially rebuilt as a domestic residence. Most of any remains of the abbey were destroyed in World War One.
