History

At the invitation of Privislav-Heinrich, last prince of the Hevelli, a group of Premonstratensians from Leitzkau settled at the St Gotthardt church in what was then the separate merchant settlement of Pardwin and today is part of the old town of Brandenburg.

In 1165, most of the community moved to the cathedral of Brandeburg to function as its cathedral chapter. The church of St Gotthardt remained a dependent church on the cathedral until 1506.
