History

Lavendon was founded by Lord John de Bidun ca. 1154-1158. It was a relatively prosperous community in the 12th and 13th centuries, but by the 14th century was experiencing economic decline.

Lavendon Abbey was suppressed at the Reformation and there are no visible remains of the monastic complex above ground today, although a 17th-century grange was built on the site.
