History

Flabémont was founded in the late 1130s by Guy d'Aigremont, with the consent of Hugues I, lord of Vaudémont. The first brothers came from Belval. It became a commendatory abbey in the early 16th century, and was sacked during the Thirty Years' War. The abbey was suppressed in 1790. Part of the former abbatial complex survives today, in private hands.
