History
The priory of Hatvan was founded at the beginning of the 13th century by Simon of the Nagyhatvan kindred. The brothers were involved with the draining of marshes in the area and the introduction of new forms of land tillage. The community had been dissolved by the 1530s.
The former priory buildings were destroyed in the 1590s, and the town hall of Hatvan now stands on the site.
