History
Belchamp was founded by Thierry II, count of Montbéliard. The abbey church was consecrated in 1183; it and several other buildings were destroyed in a fire in 1367. The abbey was rebuilt, but burned again by Burgundian troops in 1476.
Following the Reformation, the brothers were expelled in 1552. The monastic complex became a paper factory before being destroyed in a final fire in the 18th century.
