The house of St. Joseph at Rantis was established ca. 1150, and had diverged from the abbey of St. Habakkuk by the later 12th century when the two houses are mentioned as having separate abbots.
The monastery was likely destroyed by Saladin's forces in 1187. Some fragmentary ruins were apparently still extant in the 1930s.
