History

The history of the Premonstratensian community at Křtiny is unclear.

Křtiny may have been home to a community of Premonstratensian sisters founded in the first half of the 13th century, according to tradition by Leo of Klobouky. If this house existed, it was badly damaged in the Hussite Wars and was likely dissolved ca. 1520. Its history is poorly documented, and some scholars have doubted its existence. Křtiny may simply have been a parish church dependent on the Premonstratensian abbey of Zábrdovice.

Křtiny was a regional pilgrimage focus from the 17th century. The current church on the site dates to the first half of the 18th century.

Status

Women's community? Parish church?
