History
The church of St Peter at Ensheim was a possession of the abbey of Wadgassen from 1276, and the abbot of Wadgassen was the lord of the whole village of Ensheim from 1435. The priory was a summer residence for the abbots of Wadgassen. Ensheim remained in the possession of Wadgassen until its dissolution in 1792.
The site is now in private hands, and is still the focus of many local legends about ghosts and secret tunnels.
