History
In 1221, Guillem II d'Anglesola and Sibilla de Cardona, lord and lady of Bellpuig, founded a hospital of pilgrims dedicated to St Nicholas at Fondarella. Shortly afterwards they gave the hospital to the Premonstratensian abbey of Bellpuig de les Avellanes, which turned it into a priory. Fondarella was elevated to an abbey 1230/31, but in 1250 it once again became a priory.
By 1302, there were only two brothers remaining, and it was secularised in 1510. Fondarella was finally suppressed in 1705. The ruins of Fondarella had vanished by the early 19th century.
