History

The priory of Val-Restaud was founded in 1176 on land donated by Clarembault, lord of Thiembronne. His son Guillaume provided funds for the construction of a chapel there in 1208.

For much of the 15th century, the property was rented out as a farm, before Premonstratensians resumed residence there in 1508. The priory was badly damaged during the Wars of Religion. It was rebuilt in the 1640s, and the church was rebuilt in 1658.

Val-Restaud was again badly damaged in warfare in 1710, and rebuilt in 1714, before being suppressed in 1789. The property is now a farm in private hands.
