History

A priory founded in the later 12th century by the Kökényes-Radnót kindred. The priory is mentioned for the last time in the documentary record in 1428.

The community of Nagykökényes had disappeared by 1596, when Turkish forces robbed out the stones from the priory's church in order to build a defensive fortification. No ruins survive today.
