History
San Miguel de Gros was founded in 1162 by Alfonso VII of Castile. It was initially a double house and a priory, but was later elevated to the rank of abbey. Due to warfare in the 1380s, the abbey was abandoned and the community effectively dissolved.
In the 1440s, the last titular abbot gave the site to Retuerta, which turned it into a priory. However, by the 16th century, San Miguel was totally abandoned.
By the late 17th century, the site had passed into private hands. A farm now occupies the site.
