History
Joyenval was founded in 1220/21 at the initiative of Barthélemy de Roye, chamberlain of France, and his wife Pétronille de Montfort. The abbey had a long association with the Roye family.
Joyenval was badly damaged during the Hundred Years' War, and became a commendatory abbey in 1492. The abbey was ultimately suppressed at the Revolution. Today, the former monastic site is a golf course and only some partial ruins survive.
