History
The monastery of Kounice was founded in 1181 by Vilém of Pulín. The first sisters came from Louňovice. During the 14th century, the community's existing Romanesque church was replaced by a much larger Gothic church.
Communal life came to an end at Kounice in the 16th century, although the Premonstratensians of Strahov attempted to revive the community in 1702. However, the monastic complex burned to the ground in 1703 and the attempt was abandoned. Only ruins survive today. The site underwent conservation work, 1995-2014.
