History

The abbey of St. Samuel at Acre became home to Premonstratensian brothers who had fled from other houses in the region which had been destroyed in 1187. Its internal history is poorly documented.

In 1291, the Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Khalil captured the monastery and put to death the abbot, Égide de Marle, and more than 20 other members of the community.
