History
Neustift was founded at the initiative of Otto, bishop of Freising, and with the support of the Margrave of Austria. The monastery church was consecrated ca. 1143. At first it was likely a double house. In 1263, the community was home to four canons. The monastery was affected by the Thirty Years' War and was burned down in 1643. It was slowly rebuilt over the late 17th and 18th century.
The abbey of Neustift was suppressed in 1803. In the 19th century, the monastic complex served as a barracks. Its former church is now a parish church.
