History

Monday was founded ca. 1200 as an Augustinian community, and joined the Premonstratensian Order in 1210/16 at the instigation of Jourdain du Hommet, bishop of Lisieux, and Raoul de Percy. The abbey suffered economic issues during the 14th century, thanks to the plague and warfare, but had recovered by the beginning of the 16th century. For a time in the 1560s, the abbey was briefly abandoned because of warfare. It became a commendatory abbey in 1631. Mondaye underwent a major reconstruction program in the early 18th century.

The abbey of Mondaye was suppressed at the revolution. For much of the first half of the 19th century, the monastic complex was home to a Trappist community. From the 1920s, it has again been home to a Premonstratensian community.
