History

Newbo was founded in 1198 by Richard de Malebisse. It was never a large of a wealthy house, and in the early 15th century struggled to attract members.

The abbey was suppressed in 1536 and subsequently demolished. An early modern farmhouse now occupies the site. In the 1920s, the then Duke of Rutland carried out excavations at Newbo.
