History

One of the largest monastic complexes in Slovakia, the monastery of Jasov was established in the 12th century. The first monastery on the site was destroyed in warfare in the 1240s. The monastery was subsequently rebuilt, and fortified in the 15th century.

The current monastic complex was built on the site of the earlier medieval structures in the 1760s.
