History
The priory of Jánoshida was founded ca. 1186, likely at the instigation of Béla III. The priory was destroyed by Turkish forces in the 16th century. From ca. 1688, Jánoshida was re-established as a priory of the abbey of Zábrdovice, and the priory buildings were substantially rebuilt.
In 1785, both Jánoshida and Zábrdovice were suppressed on the orders of the Emperor Joseph. From 1802, Jánoshida has been a parish church administered by Csorna.
Restoration work in the 1970s uncovered some of the original Romanesque church beneath the 18th-century Baroque remodelling.
