History
A dependent priory on the abbey of Croxton, Hornby was founded before 1200 by either Robert de Montbegon—who gave it 100 acres of land—or Adam de Montbegon. It seems to have been a small community, home to a prior and three canons.
Hornby was suppressed in 1536, and the site passed into private hands. No remains of the priory survive today.
