{"id":74,"date":"2012-08-28T13:11:06","date_gmt":"2012-08-28T13:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yvonneseale.org\/uncategorized\/hastac\/"},"modified":"2015-08-19T14:52:54","modified_gmt":"2015-08-19T14:52:54","slug":"hastac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yvonneseale.org\/blog\/2012\/08\/28\/hastac\/","title":{"rendered":"HASTAC and the Digital Humanities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m really pleased to be one of this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/hastac.org\/scholars\" target=\"_self\">HASTAC (Humanities, Art, Science, and Technology Advanced Collaboratory) Scholars<\/a> at the University of Iowa, working in conjunction with UI&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/dsph.uiowa.edu\/\" target=\"_self\">Digital Studio for Public Humanities<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/obermann.uiowa.edu\/\" target=\"_self\">Obermann Center for Advanced Studies<\/a>. HASTAC is a digital initiative, an online community of scholars working together at &#8220;the intersection of technology and the arts, humanities and sciences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be the first to admit that most of what I know about computers and technology has been picked up by osmosis\u2014things I&#8217;ve read online or that I&#8217;ve heard from friends who studied the sciences at university\u2014and so I&#8217;m not a proficient coder or deeply knowledgeable in the ways of Linux. What I am, however, is really interested in how people\u2014scholars, students, the general public\u2014can use technology to improve and share their understandings of history (while still sometimes being a devil&#8217;s advocate for plain old pencil and paper!).
